Okay, my paper went okay. We went out for sushi. I had wonderful sweet ginger martinis. So, the conference wasn’t a complete wash. That said, I have to point out that Amtrak has some issues. Our train ride home was supposed to take 5 hours — and thanks to four “delays” for freight trains, ended up taking 6 1/2 hours. I’d write more, but I’m bushed.
Home.

About Disenchanted
I am a {gulp} 40ish, animal-loving, Buffy-watching, liberal college professor trapped in a "sorta' cosmopolitan" city in the reddest district in a red state. I love vanilla lattes, big dogs, and documentaries. I have a TV star crush on David Boreanaz (even though he dressed better in Angel than he does in Bones), Hugh Laurie, the father on The O.C., and Alton Brown. Shhh! Don't tell my ex-football playing husband!Cast of Characters
Dr. Disenchanted; Her Husband, The Coach; The Dogs - Breath of Death, Black Plague of Death, and The Tenure Puppy; The Cats - Fattus Cattus, The Bitchlette, Evil Kitten, and Danger Kitten; and Fishhead, the office pet. Eight pets is truly enough!Post-Tenure Projects

You’re only now figuring out that Amtrak has issues?
Ah well, I’ve only taken Amtrak three times (this being the third). The first time I took Amtrak from Ohio to upstate New York — and the train was 3 hours late to the station where I was supposed to transfer. Luckily, the train I was transfering to was also late. The second time I took the train from Chicago to upstate New York — and things went as smooth as silk.
All of my other train experience has been on commuter rails (Chicago), on the Alaska rail (different from Amtrak) and in Europe (London to Paris, London to Dover, Frankfurt to Weimer, Weimer to Prague). For the record, the best train was the high speed one from London to Paris – that was a wicked cool trip.
Of course, I’ll be taking Amtrak again in the fall because I am going to another conference. It’s cheaper to take the train than to drive and park. Blah.
I don’t think Amtrak is ever on time? Any time I’ve used them, they’ve always been late, then with the delays along the way…bleh. Though you’re quite right, it’s way cheaper to take the train.
