The ‘Stang’s all packed and we’re ready to go. The Coach just needs to take the dogs to be boarded. Let me tell you, there’s no way we’re fitting the Big Black Dog into the car. It’s packed. Obviously, a convertible doesn’t have much trunk space, but holy crap, I could only fit two suitcases, two sleeping bags, a pair of boots, two coats, and a smaller bag in the trunk. Written here, that looks like a lot, but trust me when I say that I could probably stuff two dead bodies into the trunk of the other car (or four golf bags … whatever is more visually pleasing to you). Our back seat has a cooler, two bags of food (to cut down on lunch costs and to save time while driving the first leg of our journey), three pillows and a blanket. It’s also going to have my laptop, my big “purse” and our “beauty products.” Yeah, I am definitely going to have to make The Coach get a minivan when we adopt a kid. (Notice, that’s me being selfish and not giving up my car. LOL!)
This is the first time in ages that we’ve actually been ready to go by the designated time. Usually, we’re rushing around at the last minute, waiting for our clothes to dry. Last night, however, we packed the car, right down to our musical selections. Of course, the Little White Dog panicked when he saw the suitcases and made a break for the door. Yeah, The Coach had to chase him down the street and didn’t catch him until he got past our cat sitter’s house. {Sigh}
We’re leaving in around 45 minutes and the first stretch of our journey is about 18 hours long. I never got around to booking a hotel in Santa Fe because I wasn’t sure if we’d actually make it that far tonight. I did have the presence of mind to check hotel prices, had a heart attack at the cost of some of the hotels, and decided to aim for the Red Roof Inn in Albuquerque (even though I wish I had planned this better so we could have stayed here instead).
Anyhow, I’m not sure when I’ll have Internet access again. I’m hoping to post some pictures from the road. I’m so damned excited to be leaving town! I’ve even left all work-related reading behind! W00T!
