Okay, I finally made it home from work and the first thing I did was pour myself a huge G&T. I suspect that there will be many G&Ts tonight as I attempt to hammer out an outline for this conference paper.
It will either be the best paper ever or the worst paper ever.
At this point, I am beyond caring about anything but getting the line on my CV. I tried to work on this paper earlier this semester, but I have been hammered with service work. I thought I’d get to work on it today, but I was dragged into yet another service drama. Granted, this is my own fault. I could have said “No” but it’s exceedingly hard to say “No!!!” when you don’t have tenure yet. After all, where’s the congeniality in that?
So here I sit, completely screwed, eating a veggie sub from Subway and drinking my G&T. The Coach is away at a track meet, so I only have the critters to contend with. If I bribe them with human food, maybe they will leave me alone? {Ha!}
Are you depressed yet?
Update, 8:49 p.m.: Two G&Ts down, 11 pages assembled. Not too shabby…
Update, 9:50 p.m.: Holy shit! It’s really raining outside! The street in front on my house is completely flooded which means The Coach will have fun getting home from his track meet with my chocolate ice cream. Oh well. Meanwhile, I am now on my third G&T (can you tell it was a bad day?) and am working on notes for the next part of my paper. My laptop only has about 29 minutes left, which means I only have about 29 minutes left before I quit for the night … or fall asleep on the couch, take your pick. Obviously, this is so *not* the way to write a paper. Next year, I am soooo skipping the Midwest and am going to a different conference in a nicer location — and I’ll be taking the China paper that I’m writing for our October interdisciplinary conference. I am so completely sick of this desperate conference paper writing shit. I can only hope that I get tenure so I can breathe a bit. Bah!
Update, 10:35: Yeah, I am now officially drunk, seeing how I can no longer type without making a massive amount of errors. Still waiting on the chocolate ice cream. Bah! Hangover is eminent.
I just had a horrible image of you as the “John Belushi” style of Mrs. Claus.
If it makes you feel better, I was way behind on my paper too. I didn’t finish it up until Saturday night. Blah!
@ IUMike: I’m feeling alot better because no one on the panel I am the discussant for has finished their paper. I will not be alone! LOL! At this point, I’m just going for the line on the CV.
@ CQ: Yeah, that’s amusing.
