Since I’m working most of the summer, I’ve decided to try and take a few long weekends just to sit around and do nothing. Well, nothing related to my job, ya’ know? The thought was that these enforced breaks would help to rejuvenate my mind, allowing me to work faster more efficiently during the week. Plus, I’ve been feeling a little too much like a workaholic these days. {LOL}
So, yesterday was my first stab at taking a four day weekend to do absolutely, positively nothing. I ended up finishing up a book that I was reading {Special Topics in Calamity Physics – Good!}, watch a movie from Netflix {Trust the Man — so underwhelming that I was halfway through the movie before I realized that I had seen it before!}, and buying a direct movie from the cable company {Enchanted — Very cute}. I even made a nice, simple meal {green beans with potatoes and ham & garlic bread} thinking that The Coach would be home early. After all, he told me that he’d be coming home right after school so he could take a nap and we could go to the free outdoor movie being shown down the street. Of course, that didn’t happen because there was some kind of track team drama that was video’d on a cell phone, emailed from student-to-student, and eventually made it to the middle school principal’s office. Yeah, let’s just say that it was after 8 p.m. when The Coach finally dragged his ass into the house.
Since my evening plans were ruined thanks to two stinky adolescent boys, I ended up reading another book, this one by Chuck Palahniuk. Actually, I read Lullaby first, then started on Diary. Both books were complete brain candy — I ran through each book in about four hours. They were certainly entertaining, but I’m glad I borrowed them because I would have been a little annoyed if I had spent $13.95 per book for such quick reads!
Today was another lazy day. I didn’t really get started until around 10:30 when I ran out to (1) mail the books that I sold on half.com; (2) pick up the Evil Kitten’s medication; and (3) deposit some money in my checking account. I admit that I clumped all of my errands together to save some gas {which makes me a self-satisfied smuck, I suppose} but now I’m thinking that I might run out and get dinner since The Coach is away at a track meet {thus, defeating the gas savings from earlier today}.
When I came home, I rented another movie via the cable folks. Yes, I broke down and rented Nancy Drew. D’oh. What was I thinking? Sure, the movie has a certain charm — I always wanted to know what a Roadster looked like — but it was nowhere near as good as I remember the books being.
Anyways, now, I am on a documentary binge. Netflix has that video-on-demand feature, right? So, I just finished watching World Wars {an interesting look at competitive Scrabble} and am now halfway through Helvetica {which is not quite as engaging — as you can probably tell from the fact that I am blogging while watching it}.
I just have no idea what I will do this evening because The Coach won’t be home until after 10 p.m. I could finish reading this book called Big Coal, although that’s loosely related to my job, so it should be off-limits. I could read Lee Smith’s Oral History (another borrowed book). I could watch a couple of episodes of Heroes through Netflix. Ah, the possibilities. I suspect that I’ll work on the laundry after the sun goes down {another energy saving measure — why run the dryer, heat up the house, and turn on the A/C when I can wait until it’s chilly tonight and use the dryer to keep the house at a nice temperature?}
