Good, Bad, Nerdy: The June’s Almost Over Edition

The Good:

• Pretty soon, I should be rolling in dough from my various summer gigs. Of course, all that extra cash is being set aside for my trip to Peru in March. Woot! This is my version of PAYGO — get the cash in hand before going on expensive trips.
• The new TV is here and it didn’t cost a dime. Yeah, we have only bought extended warranties twice in our lives — once for the expensive flat screen and once for Sally. I guess I must have had a precog moment about the TV, huh?
• The Katje is fitting in nicely. Right now, he is sleeping on my foot while the rest of the critters are taking a break from entertaining him. He has certainly adjusted to our clan-o-critters with more ease than the Evil Kitten did.

The Bad:

• The downside of making all the dough? Too many different things going on to make real headway on anything. It’s not like I’ve been sitting on my ass or anything like that. It more like I have a little bit done on all of my projects. Here’s hoping that I can finish up some of them soon.
• I must tell you about the Culture of Fear that is linked to riding the bus in Sorta’ Cosmopolitan … only I’m saving that for its very own blog entry.
• My trip to St. Louis? Yeah, it didn’t happen. The concert was moved to September (fucktards!) so now I can’t go at all. The upside is that we won’t be in the region if the levees go in East St. Louis. (My sympathies are with you all.)

The Nerdy:

• I am such a nerd. After hearing about this show on Adult Swim, I decided to buy the first disk of the series. Now, I am hooked. Yes, I am a 38-year-old Ph.D. who watches anime. And yes, I just ordered the first 25 episodes in the fancy collectible box. Get over it.*
• Speaking of nerds, I also finished reading American Nerd. Quite frankly, it didn’t live up to the hype. It had all the right stuff in it, but the writing was a little tedious.

* Of course, I’ve always wanted to have my own animated action hero. Does anyone remember this post?
