OMG! Icky! I went outside to play around with my tomato plants and found all these half-eaten tomatoes. On closer inspection, I found four of these little fuckers making their way through my plants!
Yep, that’s a good ol’ Tomato Hornworm. This one went down my garbage disposal. The other three are laying in the middle of the road. Hopefully, someone will do me the honor of running over them. I just couldn’t bring myself to stomp on them. It’s be all squishy and then my Crocs would be dirty.
So now, I need to go find some stuff to put on my plants. What I want to know is — do they still count as organic if I use Bt on them? Technically it’s a bacteria, not a chemical. This says yes, so I’m going for it. Call me self interested, but I didn’t put all that work into the plants just to feed the world. Feed myself? Yes. Everything else? No.

Go git ‘em!
You’ll be fine with Bt. I’m hoping my tomatoes and peppers will be ok. We had a little tiny pepper but then we got a storm (i think) and it got knocked off. The plant itself is fine but that was the first and only bloom we have so far. We’ve got a few tomatoes starting
yay!
Just thought you’d like to know I was having hornworm nightmares last night. *ack*
Out of all the things to wake up in a panic about…
Oh gross. I ended up going to the Boonie Store and bought some insect soap. I hope it works because I couldn’t find bT.
I looked out my window this morning and wondered what happened to the pepper plant I was so proud of yesterday. Went down and found three of these on the plant. Ate most of the leaves and half-ate half of the peppers (jalapeno no less…)
Pulled them off with a spade and chopped them in two. That was some bright blue alien guts in there. Then I buried them. It was gross.
