I’m home — tired and slightly ill. Pictures to come by this weekend. I am, however, happy to have survived the crushing pressure of 250,000 individuals crammed into one small space on The Mall. That, in and of itself, was no small feat!

St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square
New Orleans, Louisiana
It’s been a successful conference … I got useful comments on my paper, I saw an excellent documentary, I got an idea for a new way to approach one of my research areas, and I learned about some new books in my field that I’ve missed in my [...]

Faulkner House Books in Pirate’s Alley
At this site in 1925, William Faulkner, Nobel Laureate,
wrote his first novel Soldiers Pay.
During our trip to New Mexico, The Coach and I talked about the fact that the Midwest doesn’t really have a cuisine. Sure, you can find German food or Amish food, but for the most part, Midwestern [...]

Here I am, still working on my conference paper. I’m up to 18 pages and only need to write the conclusion to the damned thing. However, I have not spent my whole day cooped up in the hotel room. I mean, that would have defeated the purpose of coming to Louisiana. Instead, I worked until [...]
