… my mind is already on vacation, even though my body is trapped in my office. I’ve already had two conversations with the dean today (good ones, don’t worry!) and have massive amounts of shit to get done before I can leave town next Friday.
So, what have I been doing? Oh, you know, shopping — first for the department and then for myself. I had office supply money to spend before the end of the fiscal year; not much, mind you, but enough to get thumb drives for all the junior profs, a white board for another professor, and some file organizers for myself. Then, I was on a role … first at iTunes for some retro music, then at Barnes and Noble for some vacation reading (The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet, plus two books from my fancy reading list), then to Lands’ End to buy a swim shirt and a pair of skorts for my vacation.
That led to my browsing the ‘net for tickets to various attractions in Florida. I had already purchased my tickets for Kennedy Space Center because The Coach really, really wanted to do one of those tours out to the launch pads. My god, that was pricey. Today, I bought equally expensive tickets — to SeaWorld (complete with dolphin tour) and for Cirque du Soleil. I never got around to buying the Epcot tickets because I’m still trying to decide if I want to spend that kind of cash. Seriously, those tickets must be made out of real gold.
On a related note — I just bought tickets for the Space Shuttle launch on the 13th. That means we have to extend our trip by a day and our dogs’ kennelling for two days. As The Coach pointed out, however, this may be our only chance to ever see a space shuttle launch. Keep your fingers crossed that the launch doesn’t get delayed or I’m out $144!!!
The shuttle launch sounds really cool. I hope you’re able to see it.
Me too! It was a little pricey, but there won’t be that many launches left. Plus, it includes breakfast with an astronaut. :-p
