I just mentioned to TQE that I might like to go Switzerland sometime. The reason is that I have tripped across a somewhat difficult world location/landmark trifecta while I’ve been traveling this week.

What is it?

I’ve managed to take an aerial tramway to the top of a mountain that revolves. I know big deal, but… This is the second of three that exist in the entire world. The others are in Cape Town, South Africa, and Switzerland.

Though Switzerland is a long way to go just to ride a tramway.

Have fun in Mexico when you go.

Actually, my first preference in books is YA. It really depends on the book if I’ll enjoy an adult book. Is it Blume who does the detective books too? My friend told me to check out the books with the frizzy haired lady who becomes a detective… ha I can’t remember who did those?

Both of the books shown here are teen books. I really liked Tiger Eyes, but that’s because I read it while I was going to Los Alamos (the setting of the book). Forever was good in its own way – very brave topic for the year it was written. You could try Summer Sisters — that’s one of her adult novels.

Be my guest – I’m curious what people think too! The books I am talking about are the ones that the publishers send you when you don’t request them — in an attempt to get you to change books. I never sell the books that I order myself because that has always seemed dodgy to me.

Maybe I’m mistaken, but I take “exam copy” to mean books that you were given by a press to “examine” for possible use in your classroom … rather than a textbook with answers included. After all, we literature profs don’t really teach with textbooks. So, I think that Cynical Queer’s concerns aren’t entirely relevant.

But, as to whether it’s an ethical practice when you were given something for free, but sell it for a profit, for a purpose/audience that you don’t really know of … it’s a question I’ve often pondered but haven’t quite figured out myself.

I may re-post the question on my blog, if you don’t mind, ‘cuz I’d really like to know what people think.

Oh yeah. Jacks are crazy ass dogs. I’m waiting for the first puppy injury. She’s too short for the stairs, so she just slides down them on her stomach. One day, she’s going to crash into the wall!

Our Jack has been put on the injured reserve list for ball playing the past couple of days. I threw the ball for him the other day, and he ran after it. The ball hit something on the ground and suddenly changed direction, and the dog turned 90-degrees without missing a beat.

He made the turn by throwing all his weight on his left shoulder, throwing his butt up in the air about three inches, and then taking off, at speed, for the ball.

Ever see one of those car wrecks where the back end of the car comes up off the ground and the back wheels keep spinning? He was a lot like that. When his back end came up, his little legs were still moving and kicking as if they were still getting traction.

It was amusing other than the fact the dog hurt himself.
